Park Days with Rose

Sharing Disney World Tips, Tricks, and Favorite Items

  • These are some essential items to bring with you on a trip to Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida. With lots of rain and sun, you need to be prepared for everything to make every day the best it can be. Here’s a curated list of essential items to bring with you to ensure your park day is magical, comfortable, and stress-free. All items listed are linked with my Amazon affiliate link for your convenience.

If you plan on only carrying a small bag in the parks:

Poncho – Orlando is a very wet city. It rains most days, even if the showers are brief. In my experience, the rain is rarely a sprinkle and is usually a downpour. A reusable poncho is very convenient to slip on quickly when dark clouds start coming in.

Portable charger – When you’re using your phone all day to book new lightning lanes or just taking pictures, you’re battery will go quickly. A portable charger relieves the stress of finding an outlet.

Sunscreen – The UV in Florida is strong, and you’ll get sunburnt if you’re not careful. Sunscreen is a must when you’re spending all day outside walking around in the sun. You don’t want to get burned on Day 1 and be uncomfortable for the rest of the trip.

Electrolytes – It’s important to stay hydrated if you’re out in the sun all day. Electrolytes are extremely helpful for a hot day in the parks. I usually ask for a cup of water from a quick service restaurant and dump a powder packet into it.

Snacks – I bring small, easy-to-store snacks like pretzels and goldfish. Be careful not to bring things that will melt (i.e., chocolate). That’s a quick lesson to learn. 🙂

Cooling towels (depending on the time of year) – Until you’ve felt it, you’ll never understand the extreme relief a cooling towel brings on a hot summer day. Cooling towels are super simple. Just get them wet in a water fountain or sink and put them on your head/neck. You’ll immediately start feeling better.

Portable fan – Disney does a great job of putting fans in the really long lines, but you don’t always end up right in front of them. A portable fan can make all the difference when you’re standing in a 45-minute line in and out of the sun.

If you have extra room, are bringing multiple bags, or have a stroller, I would bring these too:

Water bottle – Even though you can get free cups of water at most quick service restaurants throughout the parks, it’s very convenient to have water with you while walking around or while waiting in line for a ride. The key here is to use a lightweight water bottle. By the end of the day or your trip, that large metal water bottle (like a Hydroflask) is going to feel so heavy.

Extra socks/shoes – Although the parks handle rain well, when it’s pouring the main walkways tend to flood. Dry socks and shoes will help prevent blisters and aches for the remainder of your trip. It’s also helpful to alternate your shoes everyday. When I’ve worn one pair of shoes every day, my feet get tired really quickly. Personally, I wear Crocs one day (which are surprisingly comfortable in the parks) and tennis shoes the next day. My favorite pair of Crocs right now is the silver geometric Crocs. They look like the Epoct ball.

Wet wipes – With so many people touching everything in the parks, I like to wipe down my hands regularly to avoid getting sick. Wet wipes are an easy way to clean your hands, bags, and strollers.

Medical Supplies – Even with the best socks and shoes, you may still get blisters from being on your feet way more than usual. Blister band-aids and moleskin padding will help tremendously. Advil/Tylenol/Aleve will all be very helpful for aches and pains. Dramamine for motion sickness from some of the rides.
